About Us/How We Met

LESLI:
I was born in New Orleans, LA on August 26,1982 to Mike and Brenda Istre and I have one older sister Kristi. I grew up living in Laplace, LA playing volleyball, softball and got involved with cheerleading. I graduated from St. Charles Catholic High School in 2000 and then moved to Baton Rouge to attend Louisiana State University to major in Fashion Merchandising. In December 2004 after 4.5 years of fun and memories, I moved to Dallas, TX to work for Nordstrom where I did my summer internship. (Thank you, Kristi for housing me for 8 months to get my feet wet). I’ve since changed careers to be an Account Manager with Coca Cola and really enjoy what I do. My interests include shopping, spending time with friends/family, (attempting) fitness, taking outdoor walks during the fall, and trying new recipes (which is new).

WHITEY:
I was born in Slidell, LA on February 20, 1979 to Kay Nelson and the late Lewis Nelson. I have one brother (Mark) and one sister (Stephanie). I grew up playing almost any sport I could including baseball, football, basketball, and golf. I was raised in Slidell until my graduation from Slidell High School in 1997, at which time I moved on to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. Upon graduating from college in December of 2001 after 4.5 years (I had to squeeze in an extra football season), I moved to Dallas, TX for an opportunity to work for the Dallas Cowboys. I have now been in Dallas for 10 years, and really can’t imagine living anywhere else at this point. My interests include watching/following sports (particularly the New Orleans Saints and Alabama football), health/fitness/nutrition, and whipping up new creations in the kitchen.

HOW WE MET:
One Sunday in the Fall of 2006, I (Whitey) was surfing around on Myspace and stumbled upon a very attractive girl living in Dallas who was raised not too far from my hometown in Louisiana.  The first thing I noticed (after her picture of course) was a blog entitled “You know you’re a coonass when you have a picture of a shrimp on your shirt…”  She was referring to her shirt from Pascal’s Manale restaurant in New Orleans.  I figured I’d attempt to strike up a conversation with this girl via email.  Over the next week or so we exchanged a handful of emails, and it was about that time I acquired a pair of tickets to a Dallas Stars hockey game.  I thought I’d ask this pretty girl I’d been exchanging emails with.  Although I had done my best to convince her that I wasn’t some internet weirdo, my saving grace was the fact that during our conversations we had discovered that we had a mutual acquaintance. Thankfully he told her that I was a good guy and that she should go to the game with me.  We went to the game, we had a great time, and I was able to convince her to go on a second date with me.  The rest, as they say, is history.
